IJC Statement on the Rescission of DACA

The Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC) is deeply disappointed and troubled by the Trump administration’s decision to rescind the executive memorandum establishing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and phase it out in six months with no concrete plans to replace it with a permanent pathway to lawful status for DREAMers. This is yet again another example of this administration’s lack of compassion and respect for human dignity when it comes to immigration.

We are equally disappointed that for more than sixteen years Congress, which has the power to legislate immigration laws, has abdicated its responsibility and failed miserably to legislate a permanent pathway to lawful status for DREAMers.

In light of today’s announcement, we urge Congress to work expeditiously to pass a bipartisan, just and humane bill that creates a permanent pathway to lawful status for DREAMers.

We will no longer accept inaction, pettiness, and political expediency by our elected officials.

The six-month clock has begun ticking and we expect our elected officials to do their jobs and uphold America’s core values of Justice, Liberty and Compassion.
