Katia was raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and emigrated to Texas at the age of 15. She therefore understands the difficulties of migrating and adjusting to a new life. At the University of Texas (UT) she interned abroad in Ghana, China, and the United Kingdom. She also worked on campus as a mentor and orientation advisor, and volunteered at the UT Law Immigration Clinic. This last experience inspired her to become a legal advocate for immigrant communities. Katia works for the non-profit UnLocal.
