Bella began working with detained asylum seekers as an extern, offering support, elevating their voices, and advocating for their release. Through this work she developed a thorough understanding of the systemic injustice to which people seeking protection in the U.S. are subjected. Bella came to IJC to continue this work, to grow as a legal advocate for immigrants, and to develop a professional community dedicated to ending the systemic injustices facing immigrants in the U.S. She will work at the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, representing detained asylum seekers, delivering legal orientations, and engaging in systemic advocacy in New Mexico.
