Caya’s work providing hospitality to recently arrived immigrants at Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas, led her to go to law school to help address the systemic injustices faced by the many courageous individuals she met there. Before law school, Caya also worked as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Dilley Project and as a human rights accompanier in Guatemala. During law school, she interned with Al Otro Lado, CLINIC, the Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinic, and the Crimmigration Clinic. Caya is grateful to be an IJC Fellow with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, where she will represent asylum-seeking families.
