Derek is a native Ohioan whose passion for immigration justice began while volunteering abroad in Germany and solidified during his service in the Peace Corps in Malawi. This enthusiasm led Derek to attend law school at The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law where he participated in the school’s Immigration Clinic, regularly volunteered with local immigration organizations to help pro se clients, and served as President of Moritz’s Immigration Law Society. During his time as a UCP Fellow, Derek’s work will cover a broad range of complex immigration topics with a particular focus on unaccompanied children.
