Born and raised in Mexico City to Cuban parents, Gabriela has always understood what it means to be an immigrant— she herself came to the United States six years ago. Gabriela knew she would be an immigration attorney after visiting a detention center in rural Louisiana. She later successfully represented a detainee held in the same detention center on his request for parole as a student attorney at the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Tulane Law. As an IJC fellow for the Clinic, Gabriela hopes to continue representing the immigrant community in Louisiana.
