Prior to joining IJC, Steven worked as a Paralegal at the Safe Passage Project. During this time, Steven was able to see first-hand the hardships that unaccompanied immigrant youth face in the immigration system in the United States. At Safe Passage, he gained insight into legal proceedings such as Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and an I-589, Application for Asylum and Withholding. His work ranged from translating civil documents, researching country conditions, interpreting at asylum interviews, and ensuring proper service was completed for SIJS proceedings. Steven will be placed at the Long Island Project working with the removal defense team, dedicated to defending Central American families who are seeking asylum.
