Brenda Garcia is the Midwest Fellowship Manager at Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC). Brenda first joined IJC in 2019 as a Justice Fellow at Catholic Charities of Central Florida. In this role, she provided representation to survivors of crime, domestic violence, and those fleeing persecution from their home countries. Previously, Brenda was a staff attorney with the National Immigrant Justice Center where she represented clients in affirmative and defensive cases. She has extensive experience in family petitions, adjustments, consular processing, U and T visas, VAWAs, temporary protected status, naturalization, asylum, and cancellation of removal. Brenda’s journey in immigration advocacy has taken her across various jurisdictions including Detroit, Orlando, and Chicago immigration courts.

Brenda received her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. During law school, she interned with Migrant Legal Aid, Michigan Immigrants Rights Center, and was a student attorney at MSUCOL Immigration Law Clinic. Brenda received her Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and Spanish from Grand Valley State University.  Brenda’s skills, passion for immigrant justice, and firsthand experience as a former IJC Justice Fellow brings a new perspective to the Fellowship Manager role.
