Maria’s personal experience with the immigration system has shaped her commitment to pursue justice for all immigrants. As an organizer, she coordinated campaigns to stop deportations and conducted Know Your Rights trainings for community members. At CUNY School of Law, Maria participated in the Immigrant & Non-Citizen Rights Clinic where she advocated for non-citizens in removal proceedings and represented clients affected by national security and counter-terrorism policies with the CLEAR Project. She also interned with Brooklyn Defender Services and The Bronx Defenders. As an IJC fellow, Maria will work at UnLocal where she will represent people on various immigration issues.
