Matilde was raised in Los Angeles surrounded by her Oaxacan indigenous immigrant parents and community. During her time at UC Davis, she was a research assistant for the San Francisco Bar Association’s Justice and Diversity Center working on an immigrant detention project observing the impact of legal representation. Abroad in CDMX, Matilde interned at Sin Fronteras legal clinic assisting immigrants with residency and asylum applications. She also provided legal assistance at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office with re-sentencing appeals and investigative work. Matilde will be working in Staten Island for Project Hospitality assisting the immigrant community with their legal needs.
