Prior to law school, Shelby volunteered at the International Institute of Buffalo and helped refugees resettle in the Western New York community. After law school she knew that she wanted to continue supporting and advocating for immigrant communities through legal internships. Starting in the summer of 2018, Shelby began interning at ECBA Volunteer Lawyers Project and assisted immigrant who were often victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, or persecution from their home country. In the summer of 2019, she was selected as a Buffalo Human Rights Center Fellow and interned at Human Rights First in Washington, D.C as a refugee representation intern. Shelby is excited to be joining ECBA Volunteer Lawyers Project as an Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow where she will be working on an array of cases such as affirmative and defensive asylum, T & U visas, and non-detained removal defense.
