Motivated by her family’s immigration history, Vanessa went to law school to pursue a career advocating for migrant justice. She helped represent asylum seekers through Berkeley Law’s California Asylum Representation Clinic and at Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, where she worked with clients returned to Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols. She also worked with immigrant survivors of gender-based violence at Bay Area Legal Aid and advocated for legislation promoting more humane border policies as a student in Berkeley’s International Human Rights Law Clinic. As an IJC fellow, Vanessa will work on RAICES’ impact litigation and federal appellate caseload.
