Reflections on the IJC fellowship
Our 2024 Justice Fellows and third-year 2023 Fellows are finishing their fellowships, wrapping up a term marked by changing policy, funding cuts, and an unprecedented assault on immigrant rights.
These Fellows have showed up, day after day, to support their clients.
We asked our Fellows to reflect on what they have learned over the past few years. Read their stories below.

“My fellowship taught me that I am never alone in this work. IJC, and others, are always there to lend a hand.”
Allison Baal
2024 Justice Fellow
Lutheran Social Services of New York
Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center

“When resources for the IJC fellowship program and other non-profit immigration representation services are plentiful, it allows us to be discerning, dedicated, and effective in our representation.”
Kayla Sunshine Bell
2024 Justice Fellow
UNLV Immigration Clinic
St. Thomas University College of Law

“My fellowship has been a learning opportunity in more ways than one. I am working with many of the same clients and the same types of cases, but this year I am learning more about myself.”
Cedar S. Weyker
2023 Justice Fellow
The Advocates for Human Rights
University of Minnesota Law School
