Maya’s experiences, both as a child of New York immigrants, and as a person who moved from Kenya to the US as a young adult, have informed her commitment to fighting for justice for all immigrants. At NYU Law School she has dedicated her time to developing skills as an immigration legal services lawyer during her two years in the Immigrant Rights Clinic. Last summer she interned with the Immigrants’ Rights Practice Area at the Community Development Project which taught her about the ways immigration lawyers can work in service of social movements. She looks forward to working at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem.
